More Men Having Breast Reduction to Treat Gynecomastia, Says Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon

Dr. Steven Turkeltaub discusses the fears and insecurities in men who have gynecomastia (excess breast tissue) – and how a frequently performed procedure can correct the condition and help patients feel more confident in their appearance.

Scottsdale, AZ – Dr. Steven H. Turkeltaub understands that men with gynecomastia (an excess of breast tissue) often suffer from mental distress, reduced confidence, and social anxiety as a result of this common condition. At his private Scottsdale plastic surgery practice, Dr. Turkeltaub offers breast reduction surgery for teenage males and men of virtually all ages in order to be able to feel more comfortable and confident in everyday situations such as in swimming pools, gym locker rooms, the beach or out playing sports.

Although male breast reduction can provide great relief to patients living with gynecomastia, Dr. Turkeltaub has found that many males are extremely embarrassed about discussing the condition, often leading to delayed treatment. “Many men with gynecomastia are quite self-conscious about their condition – even those who have only a mild amount of excess breast tissue,” says Dr. Turkeltaub. He also believes that both the fear of undergoing surgery as well as the concern that the procedure is cost-prohibitive keeps many potential patients from learning more about and pursuing male breast reduction surgery.

Dr. Turkeltaub has definitely noticed an increasing number of patients seeking information on male breast reduction surgery in the last several years at the Arizona Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. In a blog post titled “Male Breast Reduction Rises In Popularity,” Dr. Turkeltaub says regarding these affected men that “Most of them have researched gynecomastia on the internet, learning that this condition is quite common and that plastic surgery treatment is relatively straight-forward and highly successful.” Once they are seen in consultation with Dr. Turkeltaub, he states that they typically become far more comfortable with the idea of the procedure and the benefits it can provide – both cosmetically and psychologically.

“In my experience, I have found that recuperation from surgery for the treatment of gynecomastia is often easier than they had anticipated,” says the Scottsdale plastic surgeon. In fact, Dr. Turkeltaub has found that most male breast reduction patients find the discomfort level after surgery easily tolerable. Dr. Turkeltaub states that patients who work a more sedentary type of job typically can return to work just a few days after the procedure.
